You’re looking at a single strip of figured walnut doing something wood isn’t supposed to do — move.
Handcrafted in New Hampshire by Wilbur Woodworking, this face-grain cutting board pairs warm cherry with a bold, wavy ribbon of figured walnut running straight through the center. The grain rolls and shifts like topography, creating a natural pattern that feels less like lumber and more like landscape. Nothing forced, nothing repeated — just wood showing off a little.
At 15″ × 10″ × 0.75″, it’s sized for everyday use without taking over your counter. Big enough for real prep, clean enough to leave out.
The Woods That Built It
Cherry – Soft, warm, and steady. The outer bands frame the board with a light, honey tone that deepens beautifully over time, giving the whole piece a sense of balance.
Figured Walnut – This is the show. A single, continuous strip of dark walnut with dramatic, wavy grain that shifts in the light. It’s the kind of detail you don’t get twice — the reason this board exists as a one-off.
Built to Work
Face-grain construction keeps things durable and stable. Every surface is hand-sanded smooth and finished with a food-safe blend of mineral oil and beeswax, bringing out the contrast between the cherry and walnut while protecting the board for daily use.
